MicroRNAs have emerged as highly promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers owing to their dysregulated expression levels in many diseases including cancer and neurodegenerative disease. There is an urgent demand to develop simpler, more robust strategies which are amenable with POC testing, being reliable, cost-effective, time-effective and multiplexed. Microfluidic devices have the potential to revolutionize healthcare by offering miniaturized, portable, easy-to-handle devices suitable for many biomedical applications. My projects involve developing microfluidic-based biosensor for miRNA detection that satisfies the mentioned requirements.
